Aisle 11

Write about a time someone surprised you.

"When will I see you again?" she whispered to herself with sad tears as she hung up the phone. In her heart she was longing for him. She kept that to herself while trying to repaint the gloomy skies, that are starting to cloud her, with bright blue, sunny ones.

It was Sunday. Like other Catholics, she was going to mass and was ready to go to the 11 am service. Change of plans, she was going to the 12nn one instead. She talked to him on the phone and he insisted that she needed a prayer book for church. A prayer book that can be bought only in this one grocery store. "Sure, not a problem," she told herself. After all, she was still right on schedule.

The moment she entered the grocery store, the phone rang and it was him.
"I think you can find the book somewhere in aisle 11," he suggested.
"Ok, aisle 4, 5, 7, 10... 11, there it is," she said.

As she walked into aisle 11, she carefully glanced her eyes, up and down the racks trying to find this mystical prayer book. And before she reached the end of the aisle, he appeared before her with a big smile and his eyes gleaming. She was in utter shock. "How in the world did you get here, when I was just talking to you knowing that you are 403 miles away from me?" was her big question that she never got to ask that moment. All she could do was throw her arms around him as tight as she can, while everything around them magically faded away.

Pre-Xmas Entry

It's almost 12midnight, Christmas Day here. If I were in the Philippines at this same time and day, I'd probably be helping out with the table preparation, or playing with my little cousins, or chit-chatting with my titos/titas/cousins, or just getting home from Misa de Gallo, but I'm here inside the four-corners of my bedroom, updating my blog, and the only music I'm listening to is that made by my portable heater. I now think it's good this way, we all know the "reason for the season" is right? Not the gifts, not the food, not the fun. So i'll probably flip through the pages of Luke tonight, after all, I have been quite out of touch.

I'm thinking of making this blog, a creative writing place, kind of thing. The thing is my sister gave me this book, The Writer's Block, and this other book, which is still gift wrapped and I'll probably open it in the morning, but I know it's a book of writing prompts, too, 'cuz I handpicked them out myself. Plus, I still have this other book of the same type (It's not in my bookshelf?!!! Where the heck could it be?!). So, there. Enjoy the rest of the holidays!
